#Keepchildrensafe

UNICEF – digital transformation project, 2016
Responsible for local implementation of UNICEF’s exciting digital transformation project. Kicking off with our #KeepChildrenSafe campaign with the Office of the Children’s Advocate and partners do Good Jamaica, Gleaner and RJR, our live chat generated in April generated 24 million impressions.

Y-Klick – national youth mobile survey, 2016
At Silverstone Solutions we implemented an islandwide mobile survey of persons aged between 18-40 to better understand young people’s attitudes towards social issues, discrimination and civic attitudes. Using our mobile platform we were received 3,000 respondents quicker and cheaper than traditional methods. Results were published in successive issues of the Gleaner newspaper.

Jamaica’s first #SocialMillionaire – mobile campaign, 2015
For Silverstone Solutions conceived the concept of ‘Social Millionaire’, a gamified social-mobile campaign, on behalf of client Digicel Jamaica and their Merry Millions ATL campaign. 58,000 challenge entries were completed 21,000 registrants who helped generate 1.1 million page views and trended on Facebook with a peak of 92,000 people talking about it.

Respect Jamaica

Respect Jamaica – anti-discrimination programme, 2015
For the Digicel Jamaica Foundation, developed and implemented a sustainable social media strategy based upon user-generated content created by youth ambassadors, programme partners and members of the public. On Facebook engagement overtook mainstream Jamaican brands, including Digicel Jamaica, with reach of 700,000 and 100,000 engaged users monthly. Handed over to youth ambassadors at the end of six-month term.

CARIMAC/UWI – social media workshops, 2015+
For the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication at UWI Mona I did two social media workshops, the goal of which being to equip marketers to generate greater ROI from social media and support within their organisations. Both workshops were oversubscribed with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Workshops are being repeated in 2017 in June and July. Click here for info.

World Bank – NextGENDERation, 2015
Was asked by World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC to contribute my findings and recommendations to the project policy note after building an inventory of organisations who work in violence prevention, in relation to youth and gender. During that work I contacted and interviewed more than 100 non-governmental organisations, government agencies, and multilateral organisations.

Brighter Christmas – rewarding social good, 2013
One of several multi-country campaigns I did for Digicel Group (including the Addy Award-winning #SavedByData mobile-social campaign in 2014), my favourite was #BrighterChristmas, which empowered people to use Digicel as Father Christmas to gift someone who had done something ‘Extraordinary’ for them during that year. Generated 5,000 entries and 45,000 new Facebook fans.

Economist Intelligence Unit – IDB research, 2013
Besides writing regular updates on politics for the EIU, I was asked to contribute to the Inter-American Development Bank’s WEVentureScope to determine which countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are the most supportive of women seeking to start and grow businesses.

Top 10 Twitter Trend, 2012
LA Lewis, a pair of his briefs, international recording artist Diplo and a segment on Television Jamaica’s (TVJ) popular Entertainment Report. This blog post explains how we got it to trend on Twitter. Not bad for a budget of pretty much zero dollars. What’s more, LA did land that art show in the UK.

FIRST Magazine – Associate Editor, 2004
Part of the team that launched the cult “7x”7 publication, winning coverage from the likes of Vanity Fair and selling our content to the likes of The BBC. My tasks ranged from finding the format of the magazine; organising AD sales and distribution; and writing and editing the publication. RIP Peter Dean Rickards who led the project and whose singular vision proved we most definitely can do world-class creative work from here in Jamaica: first-magazine.net

The New York Times, The Miami Herald, The Guardian – Freelancer/stringer, 2007+
Freelanced as a reporter, stringer and reporter for international titles covering major stories including Hurricane Dean (above), Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean and the 2010 State of Emergency.

Jamaica Observer – Online Project Manager, 2007-11
Recruited to revamp the newspaper’s website, we relaunched the product and overtook the Gleaner. I was initially a one-man online editorial team managing news updates, reader comments, and Twitter. Expanding, we launched daily online news video and won an Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) award for our coverage of the 2010 State of Emergency.

Jamaica Gleaner – Reporter to Online Editor, 2005-7
Joined the historic newspaper as a general assignment covering anything from crime to politics, regularly winning the monthly award for producing most front page lead stories. Then specialised in technology, international affairs, and the social sector, producing a weekly section Volunteer Today. Promoted twice including to Online Editor where I introduced web-first publication, breaking news and citizen journalism during Hurricane Dean and the general election, both in 2007.
